READING
This is the most important of the home study activities. Students are assigned generally four nights reading a minimum of 30 minutes or more per night Monday through Thursday. Weekly there will also be a reading practice book brought home for practice which may be used for their 20 minutes of reading per night. Each book will be place on a single ring to build a collection of practice books brought home daily and returned to school for practice. Please continue to practice these until fluent as they correspond to the sight words and sounds of the reading units and continue to build upon each other as the school year progresses. There will also be a reading log in their green home study folder that must be returned the next day, after each night of reading, signed by a guardian. I will accept STAR signatures for this if necessary. The reading log will only be checked on Tue through Fri. Of course, reading is encouraged for every night. For whatever reason, if you had to choose between which homework to complete, reading should be chosen over all other home study activities.
MATH
Math homework sheets are brought home from school, not printed at home. Look for them in your student's green home study folder in the pocket labeled Return to School. I will also send two related math classwork pages for review and study. Please keep them together in a special place to help to review before each chapter test. Look for them in your student's green home study folder in the pocket labeled Keep at Home.
Before each chapter test, instead of the regular math homework, I will send 2 chapter review sheets labeled My Review and Reflect. This will be their math homework to be returned the next day. Students should use these review sheets and the other saved classwork lessons to prepare for each chapter test.
Occasionally, there may be 2 math sheet assignments on Monday (1 sheet for the previous Friday's/Thursday's lesson and 1 sheet for Monday's lesson). There is no math homework on test days but there may be a sheet to introduce the next math topic/chapter.
In the event that the students need more time with the day's math lesson, the math homework for that day may be postponed. I will update the homework tab of this website accordingly.
SPELLING SHEET
This is a daily spelling activity sheet that is brought home from school. There will be 4 types of spelling homework: write each word 2 times, write them in abc order, write them in sentences, and unscramble the letters and write the spelling word. Look for them in your student's green home study folder in the pocket labeled Return to School.
MY SHARED READING
Starting in a few weeks, your child will bring home his/her "My Shared Reading" booklet. The Unit Activity Calendar has daily activities you and your child should complete in this booklet together. Once completed, please check off the box on the Activity Calendar. RETURN THE BOOKLET TO SCHOOL THE FOLLOWING DAY as they may be using the booklet for classwork.
